City Fact: Louisville was established at the mouth of Beargrass Creek during the year 1778 by settlers led here by George Rogers Clark, the explorer of the Northwest Territory. Louisville was incorporated during the year of 1828 and was named for king Louis XVI of France. This was to show thanks for the help of the French during the Revolutionary War.
