State Fact: Much of Missouri was originally settled by residents of the Appalachian mountains who made their way to the Ozark Mountains. These people showed great resilience and independence with regard to their ability to handle adversity in claiming this new wilderness area. During this last century the area has become more open to new residents and tourists and to tourists dollars with the addition of new vacations homes, lake resorts, and many new rental properties.;
State Fact: Missouri is host to one of the most famous entertainment cities in the country, Branson. Branson has a series of entertainment centers with emphasis on clean, wholesome family entertainment. Saint Louis lies on the eastern side of the state and is famous for the Gateway Arch built during 1966. The arch is a tribute to the 19th century travelers and pioneers that made their way through the state on their westward journey.;
State Fact: Missouri is home to the Missouri River which divides the state into two parts. The Missouri River continues west to east and then empties into the mighty Mississippi River. North of the Missouri River is a great flatland area where corn is the main crop and cattle graze. As one travels south of the Missouri River the traveler moves into the Ozark Mountains filled with natural beauty in its forest areas, small streams and numerous natural springs.
